JUST IN: Tinubu’s government opens up on paying a sum of N1 billion to secure release of Kaduna schoolchildren kidnapped

The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed that no ransom was paid to free the pupils abducted from Kuriga village in Kaduna state.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during Monday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided by President Bola Tinubu.

The abducted Kuriga schoolchildren were taken from Government Secondary and Primary Schools, Kuriga 1, Chikun LGA of the state, on March 7, 2024, and spent 17 days in captivity. Despite the bandits’ threat to execute the hostages if a ₦1 billion ransom was not paid within 20 days, Tinubu vowed not to pay any ransom.

Idris applauded President Tinubu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Service Chiefs, and others for their contributions to the children’s release.

President Tinubu directed security services to intensify efforts to end nationwide kidnapping and ensure perpetrators are punished.

The abducted children have arrived at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House amid tight security.
