Aliko Dangote Foundation disburses free 80,000 bags of rice in Lagos

The Aliko Dangote Foundation has made a significant contribution to the ongoing efforts to alleviate the economic hardship faced by Nigerians by presenting 80,000 bags of rice, each weighing 10 kilograms, to the Lagos State Government for distribution to vulnerable residents.

During the presentation ceremony at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Aliko Dangote emphasized the importance of wealthy individuals and organizations supporting government interventions in addressing the current economic challenges. Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Dangote for his gesture and called on other individuals and private organizations to join hands with the government in providing relief to the vulnerable.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted the multi-pronged initiatives his administration has undertaken to cushion the economic effects on residents, including reductions in transport fare, discounted food markets, and affordable healthcare.

Dangote explained that the distribution of rice symbolizes the foundation’s commitment to compassion and solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan. He announced that the foundation would be extending support to all Nigerians, irrespective of religious background, due to the prevailing economic challenges. Additionally, the foundation is distributing iftar meals and family-size loaves of bread daily in Kano Municipality.

Fatima Aliko Dangote, the Group Executive Director, Commercial, emphasized the foundation’s continuous support for the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria. She revealed that the foundation has been providing daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner in their hometown of Kano for the past 35 years, along with other relief efforts such as distributing bread in Lagos.

Through these initiatives, the Aliko Dangote Foundation aims to provide vital assistance to those in need and inspire others to contribute to easing the current challenges faced by Nigerians.
