One Nwakaego Okoye, a TikToker, has been convicted of defaming Nollywood actress, Eniola Badmus. A Federal High Court in Lagos State found Okoye guilty of defamation and sentenced her to three years imprisonment.
Okoye confessed to defaming the actress because a friend, Fortune Ibe, promised to pay her ₦200,000 to do so. The charges against her included conspiracy to commit felony and knowingly causing the transmission of offensive and false communications via social media networks.
However, for being remorseful, Justice Oweibo of the court gave her the option to pay a fine of ₦150,000 instead of serving jail time. The prosecutor stated that Okoye and another individual, Chimabia, who is now at large, were jointly charged with the offence.
Okoye admitted that a friend had narrated a false story about Eniola Badmus, alleging that she introduced young Nigerian girls to men. She made a video of the false story and posted it on TikTok, where it garnered over 3,000,000 views.
