ByteDance Denies Reports of TikTok Sale to American company Amid US Ban Threats

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has refuted speculations of considering the sale of the popular social media platform amidst threats of a ban by the US government.

In a statement posted on its news platform Toutiao, ByteDance dismissed media reports as ‘false rumors,’ asserting that it has no plans to sell TikTok.

This comes in response to President Joe Biden’s bill mandating ByteDance to divest its ownership of TikTok within nine months, with a possible three-month extension if negotiations continue.

TikTok has consistently denied being a security threat and emphasized its independence from the Chinese government’s influence. Chief Executive Shou Zi Chew reaffirmed the company’s determination to remain operational in the face of potential bans in the US.
