72 yr old father-in-law defrauds son-in-law of 3 cars, millions in land deals

During the trial of his father-in-law, Muritala Adebayo, for fraud and obtaining by false pretences, Gafar Ademolake, a prosecution witness, revealed to Justice Mojisola Dada of an Ikeja Special Offences Court how he was allegedly defrauded of three cars and millions of naira.

Ademolake testified that Adebayo, whom he had known for about 11 years, convinced him to invest in land transactions, initially requesting sums of ₦300,000 and ₦400,000 before eventually demanding one million naira.

Ademolake complied, even transferring funds to Adebayo’s personal assistant’s bank account. Despite Adebayo promising land in return, Ademolake later discovered discrepancies in the deals, leading to the realization that the land had been sold to another developer.

Adebayo assured Ademolake of resolving the issue, but no solution was reached.Ademolake presented receipts of his payments in court, corroborating his claims. However, attempts to tender the receipts as evidence were rebuffed by the court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Adebayo on charges of obtaining money by false pretences, alleging that he fraudulently obtained sums totaling ₦9 million and three cars from Ademolake under the guise of land transactions.

Adebayo pleaded not guilty, and the case was adjourned until May 14 for further proceedings.

Greed is a big problem in this life. Morality and consideration have been terribly eroded. People just want money, not minding the source. Imagine duping in itself, more so your family. It’s really a pity
