Nigerian Afrobeat singer Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni Makanaki, has clarified why she prostrated to greet businessman and socialite Ibrahim Egungbohun Dende (IBD Dende) on a plane, despite criticism from netizens.
Teni explained that she was unaware of any criminal activities associated with IBD Dende, who had shown her kindness in 2014 before she gained fame.
Teni stated that she holds IBD Dende in high esteem due to his past support and generosity. However, she emphasized that she does not condone or support criminal behavior, and believes in letting the law take its course.
The controversy arose when Teni shared a video of herself prostrating to greet IBD Dende on a plane, which sparked criticism from many who were aware of the smuggling allegations against him.
“I Met IBD in 2014 and he was so good to me, even before I blew up. So when[ever] I see him, it’s always love. I honestly had no knowledge of any criminal activities associated with him. I do not support criminals, so let the law take its course.” Teni said.
