The Nigerian Federal Government has unveiled plans to generate 2.5 million jobs through the Labour Employment Enhancement Programme (LEEP).
During the pre-inaugural ceremony for LEEP in Abuja, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, emphasized the importance of equipping the Nigerian workforce with essential tools and opportunities for success in the digital era amidst a rapidly changing global environment.
The LEEP aims to address issues of zero hunger, zero poverty, economic growth, and the creation of decent jobs through six strategic initiatives.
“The LEEP vision is to train and equip 2.5 million people.
“In Nigeria, youth unemployment remains a pressing issue, with over 13 million young people currently unemployed.
“According to recent statistics, initiatives like LEEP are crucial in providing young people access to training, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurial support.
“This will address the challenge of youth unemployment and promoting social inclusion.
The initiative is a comprehensive strategy to address key challenges facing our workforce, such as job creation, skills development and migration control,” she said.
This initiative comes in response to Nigeria’s unemployment rate, which rose to 5 percent according to the National Bureau of Statistics Third Quarter 2023 labour data.
I really hope they take this seriously because the unemployment rate in Nigeria is worrisome. And thousands of students graduate every year out of the university without jobs waiting for them.
This is very good am so happy to hear this
Buh hope they take it so serious cause the rate of unemployment in this country is something else..
It is even breeding wayward life to the youth seriously…
So they need to be fast in what they are doing. Not after creating it they will still put their own people there oooh..
Don’t be surprised is an audio program probably they will run it for like 6 months and later suspend it
This is a welcome development but can they maintain it so generation unborn can also benefits
Wao, this is a good development. At least this can reduce the rate of unemployment in the county
We want reality not just plan gotten from a press conference
I pray this plan works out ooooo
Atleast the rate of unemployment would reduce and graduates won’t have to worry after school
We hope this is true 🥺
This labour empowerment get as e be o
I just hope this development is going to be implemented
This is going to be a good one if it is as its said
No be today we dey hear this kind of news, when action is taken, we can accolade the effort of the government
I pray it’s real because Nigeria youth are suffering 🤦♀️ we will suffer in universities. Still suffer after school when there is no work
Interesting
This will go a long way
It’s a nice project
