In a bold move to tackle corruption head-on, Kanmi Ajibola, a member of the Osun State House of Assembly, has called for capital punishment for corrupt government officials. Representing the Oriade State Constituency, Ajibola emphasized that allowing thieves of the nation’s wealth to live constitutes the greatest injustice to both the law of God and humanity.
In a detailed five-page letter addressed to key government officials, including the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ajibola highlighted the urgent need to combat corruption effectively. Titled “You Can Be the Moses and Musa of the Present Nigerian Generation,” the letter underscored the necessity of introducing capital punishment as a sincere and decisive measure to curb the rampant stealing of public funds in Nigeria.
Citing constitutional provisions empowering the National Assembly to enact laws aimed at halting corrupt practices, Ajibola pointed out that several countries, including China, Indonesia, and Thailand, have successfully implemented capital punishment for corruption-related offenses. He argued that such measures have contributed to economic stability, peace, and rapid development in those nations.
Ajibola lamented the staggering magnitude of corruption in Nigeria, citing estimates by reputable organizations such as the London Chatham House and the Human Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA). According to reports, Nigerian leaders, public officers, and civil servants have siphoned off billions of dollars from public coffers, resulting in significant losses to the nation’s economy.
The lawmaker emphasized that if these stolen funds had been invested in critical infrastructure and capital projects, Nigeria would have been better positioned to address pressing social issues such as kidnapping, unemployment, poverty, and insecurity. He argued that allowing corrupt individuals to evade justice perpetuates a cycle of impunity that undermines the welfare of innocent Nigerians.
As a human rights activist, Ajibola acknowledged the gravity of advocating for capital punishment but stressed that the detrimental impact of corruption on society necessitates decisive action. He urged the National Assembly to exercise its constitutional mandate and introduce legislation that includes a penalty clause of capital punishment for corrupt officials.
In conclusion, Ajibola emphasized the imperative of swift and decisive measures to combat corruption before it irreparably undermines Nigeria’s stability and prosperity. He urged prompt action by the National Assembly to enact laws that reflect the seriousness of corruption-related offenses and deter future misconduct.
The call for capital punishment for corrupt government officials represents a significant step towards fostering transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria. It remains to be seen how lawmakers will respond to this impassioned plea for justice and integrity in public office.
This law needs to be passed without much hassles. If this can be canvassed in the federal level, it will be very nice. The corruption is now at its peak !!
If corruption can be put to an end, a new Nigeria can come to existence.
If we fight corruption in this country it will never remain the same again
Do you think what he said in quote is the solution ?
