Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku has indicated that the current government is not happy about the state of the country’s economy.
According to him, no one forecasted that the New Patriotic Party government would be hit with a pandemic that would affect the economic fortunes of the West African country called Ghana.
We are human and it’s human beings who are running the government. Some people may have personal problems with someone like Sammi Awauku and have generalized it to affect the whole of the NPP. Some people have also not had a better explanation and an understanding of the issues.
I don’t think we are happy as a party that people will lose their jobs because of the hardship accompanying COVID-19. I don’t believe that when we were asking the people of Ghana to vote for us in 2016, somebody could forecast and predict that we will meet a pandemic like COVID-19,” he said.
On what monies gained during the COVID-19 was used for he said “What happened was that the world was halted because of COVID-19. You are not going or coming so what you had to do was to make use of what you generate in your country. We had to be forced to produce things locally. The government had to support local industries. For almost eight months when schools were closed teachers were paid, civil servants were paid, and nurses were paid. Other countries slashed salaries. So we are not giving excuses for the hardship because it is not the creation of the NPP
