Three individuals were tragically pronounced dead on Friday following a fatal accident along the Akungba-Ikare Road in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Reports indicate that the collision involved a Toyota Camry bearing license plate LND 592 GX and two commercial buses.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of the car abruptly opened the door, striking the motorcycle carrying the victims, causing them to tumble onto the road, where they were subsequently run over by another vehicle approaching from the opposite direction.
The victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene, prompting the driver of the car to flee in fear of reprisal, while local youths set the vehicle ablaze.
Confirming the incident, Mr. Ezekiel Son’Allah, the Ondo Sector Commander of the Road Safety Commission, attributed the accident to wrongful overtaking and route violation by the involved vehicles.
Son’Allah stated, “Three individuals lost their lives due to wrongful overtaking and route violation. The victims were transported to Aduloju Hospital Akungba by the police.”
While cautioning motorists to avoid violating traffic rules, the FRSC boss opined that speed breakers should be mounted on the road to forestall recurrent crashes on the road.
