JCIN TPI, PRESS COUNCIL TRAIN STUDENT LEADERS ON PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURES.

Junior Chamber International, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in conjunction with Press Council, The Polytechnic Ibadan, held a two-day, hybrid, Paliamentary Procedure Programme, for all Leaders and aspiring leaders on campus, on the 22nd and 23rd of April, 2024.

The Paliamentary Procedure Programme, themed; “Relevance of Parliamentary Ethics and Guidelines in the Corporate World and Beyond”, was organised for leaders and aspiring leaders on campus, to educate them on the intricacies of Parliamentary Procedures in corporate environment.

The first day, being the virtual segment of the programme, had Miss. Oyeniyi Temiloluwa, as the guest speaker, treating the topic; “Ethical decision making in Parliamentary settings”. There, she gave insights on what Parliamentary Procedure really is and its importance in decision making in Parliamentary assemblies.

The second part of the programme, which was the physical segment, was held at The Assembly Hall, North Campus, The Polytechnic Ibadan, on the 23rd of April, 2024.

At the commencement of the programme, the event compere introduced the guests for the day: The theme speaker, Mr. Olubukola Adio, the trainer, JCI SEN. Kayode Adebayo – General legal Counsel, JCI Nigeria, the Dean Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, Dr. Mrs. Kehinde Faniyi, representing the Acting Rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Prof. Dr. Taiwo Lasisi. The Admissions Officer, Dr. Mrs. Olajide Taiwo, the SUG President, Comr. Oyekan Tobiloba Emmanuel, the SRC Speaker Sen. Folahanmi Adnan Adebayo, the JCIN TPI Immediate Past President, who also doubles as the Southwest Collegiate Vice Chairman, JCI Nigeria, JCIN Member Tiamiyu Harun Opeyemi, were all present at the high table.

The Press Council Chairman, Comr. Ajayi Toyyib Olabamiji and the JCIN TPI Local Organization President, JCIN Member Akande Moses Olamide, the hosts of the programme, were both present too.

In his Welcome Address, the Press Council Chairman, Com. Ajayi Toyyib Olabamiji, expressed his gratitude to every guest and participant present and further encouraged the participants to be keen to learn and be ready to apply all they learn in the course of the programme.

Lecturing on the theme; ‘Relevance of Parliamentary Ethics and Guidlines in the Corporate world and beyond’, the theme speaker, Mr. Olubukola Adio, started off by stating that the parliament is the most important arm of government. He went on to explain the roles that the parliament play in government and thereby, expressing his displeasure on how some Nigerian politicians have faulted the actual essence of the parliament, with Executive members, after their time in office, retiring in The House of Assemblies, instead of the other way round. “The parliament is supposed to be a training ground for leaders”, he quoted.

In a brief speech, the Dean FBCS, Dr. Mrs. Kehinde Faniyi, representing the Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, and Dr. Mrs. Olajide Taiwo took turns to appreciate the organizers of the programme and urged all the participants to put all they’ve learnt into action to help them build a great future as leaders.

After a short interlude, the trainer for the day, JCIN SEN. Kayode Adebayo, stepped up to teach on the topic ‘Principles of Parliamentary Procedures’. It was a one hour long intensive practical training on what Parliamentary Procedure means, the different types of Parliamentary Procedures, Importance of Parliamentary Procedures, How to move motions in meetings and the misconceptions around Parliamentary Procedures. He engaged the audience and conducted practical sessions on different aspects of Parliamentary Procedures.

The two-day programme came to end with JCIN, TPI Local Organization President Akande Moses Olamide’s Vote of Thanks and Closing remarks.

Awards of Excellence were presented to the Guest Speaker and Trainer, in appreciation of the immense value they dished out at the programme. Also, Certificates of Participation was handed to every registered participant present at the event.
