During a raid by bandits in Maradun town, the capital of Maradun Local Government Area in Zamfara State, two individuals lost their lives, while others were abducted. Faruku Shehu, a native of the region, informed Punch that the bandits stormed the town on the early morning of Friday, April 26, 2024, firing indiscriminately and looting residences.
Shehu remarked that although the exact number of abducted individuals remained uncertain, it’s possible that the bandits may have taken up to 30 people.
Sani, whose house fell victim to the bandits’ rampage, voiced his dismay at the alarming insecurity gripping the town.
“I heard the bandits forcibly entered my living room and were advancing toward my inner chambers when I managed to conceal myself. My wives and children took another route and fled to safety,” he recounted.
He expressed worry about the frequent attacks plaguing the town. “Just last Friday, we experienced a similar assault.”
Another resident, Hassan Ibrahim, lamented the presence of armed bandits stationed at various points throughout the area.
“After hearing their approach, I swiftly shut my door, climbed over the nearby wall, and fled for my life,” he recounted.
He emphasized the urgency for intervention by the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Mattawale, to address the security challenges in his hometown and prevent future attacks.
