A Federal High Court in Kano has granted an interim order restraining the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) from implementing the new electricity tariff for Band A consumers.
The order was given by Justice Abdullahi Liman on Thursday, following an ex-parte motion filed by Super Sack Company Limited, BBY Sacks Limited, Mama Sannu Industries Limited, Dala Foods Nigeria Limited, Tofa Textile Limited, and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Limited (MAN).
The plaintiffs, represented by Abubakar Mahmoud, sought the court’s intervention to stop NERC and KEDCO from enforcing the new tariff, which was approved on April 3. The new tariff would have seen customers under the Band A classification, who receive 20 hours of electricity supply daily, pay N225 per kilowatt (kW), up from N66.
The court’s order also restrains NERC and KEDCO from intimidating and threatening to disconnect the applicants’ electricity supply for non-acceptance of the new increased tariff.
The sudden hike in electricity prices has been widely criticized by the House of Representatives and other stakeholders, who have called on NERC to suspend the implementation of the new tariff.
The case has been adjourned for further hearing.

From #66 to #225 is much o. At the end of the day, the citizens especially poor ones will be at the receiving end. Something government can subsidize for us.
