The Anambra State Police Command has identified the officer seen in a viral video assaulting a resident. The video shows the officer slapping the victim and hitting him with a gun.
In a statement released today, spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga condemned the officer’s actions.
“Commissioner of Police Nnange Itam has appealed to the victim to come forward and assist with the investigation,” Ikenga said. “The Commissioner has also ordered immediate disciplinary proceedings against the involved officer.”
The statement emphasizes the police department’s zero-tolerance policy for unprofessional conduct.
“Under CP Itam’s watch, the command will not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct by police personnel,” Ikenga said. “He highlights the importance of officers remaining calm and professional when dealing with civilians, even in the face of provocation.”
The statement also calls for cooperation from the public.
“The Commissioner urges citizens to always respect civil authority and abide by the law,” Ikenga added. “The command remains committed to ensuring the safety and protection of all citizens.”
