Despite heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions in the north of England, the Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester United is set to proceed as scheduled today.
The playing surface at Anfield remains unaffected due to undersoil heating. However, safety concerns regarding local access roads and the well-being of traveling supporters prompted a Safety Advisory Group, including Liverpool City Council and emergency services, to assess the situation. Following a safety meeting this morning, Liverpool FC stated, “At this stage, the match is planned to go ahead as normal, and every effort is being made to get the game on.”
The severe weather has led to disruptions elsewhere, including the temporary closure of runways at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Manchester Airport. Additionally, several EFL matches have been postponed due to the conditions.
Liverpool, currently leading the Premier League standings, aims to avoid further fixture congestion, having previously experienced a postponement of the Merseyside derby against Everton due to high winds from Storm Darragh. Supporters attending the match are advised to exercise caution and allow extra time for their journeys due to the inclement weather.
